biography Born in the Kanto Region, Mariko Tsuga was the top of her class at Saffron University. One of Professor Oak's interns, she showed great promise both as a field researcher in Kanto along with her trusted Charmeleon, as well as a scientist working inside the lab. She's a biologist who studies the genetic history of Pokemon, and her studies aim to uncover the origins of Mega Evolution and why only certain species have that capability. She also shows interest in Pokemon conservation and the reproductive habits of Legendary Pokemon. Now a professor in grad school, she's working overseas in the Kalos region and assisting Professor Sycamore. Now that he's been called away for work regarding the return of the legendary Pokemon Lugia, she has taken over for him back at the laboratory in Lumiose. Besides giving out Pokemon to new Trainers, she's quite eager to battle them when they've become skilled. Her partner Pokemon, Charizard, is quite the behemoth to take on in battle. Despite her prestigious origins, Tsuga still doesn't seem quite happy. Known as a perfectionist who's especially harsh on herself, she yearns to live a double life as both a researcher and a Trainer, and has honestly wanted to take on the Kalos league herself. She's worried that as she's become older, she's settled down more and might be treated more like a secretary than a skilled Trainer.
